Who knows, maybe the unit I got was slightly different from the one the others who gave positive reviews? All I know is that the AM reception on the one I got was absolutely pathetic.
I bought this as a gift for my wife. She already has an MP3 player, so the SOLE purpose for getting this unit was to listen to our favorite AM sports talk radio station during her train commute. It is a powerful station (50K watts) whose transmitter is 10-15 miles from our house, and we have never had any problem receiving this station on any radio at home or in the car around the area, up to 100 miles away. I never could get this station on this radio.
My first problem started when I tried to tune the radio to the station: the digital tuner moves up and down in increments of 8 or so kHz and it is impossible to get it to land right on the station’s frequency (680). I then tried to get it to search, hoping that since it was a strong frequency it would stop there. No chance. No matter where I went inside or out, pointing to all directions of the compass, antenna in out or half mast. Never got my station.
The users manual is also horrible. Leaving aside the terrible english, the instructions seldom matched what the unit did. For example, it talked about setting the sleep delay when first powering on the unit. I never ever saw the show they said I would see, and nothing I could do got to it.
I am returning this for a refund.

Bought one to replace my Radio Your Way Pogo, which was a fantastic product that lasted for years.
The Degen, by comparison, is … well, there’s no comparison.
I returned it.
Largest complaint: The manual says you have to turn the volume up while you record. So much for late night radio shows.

Just returned this radio. It couldn’t receive one station on any band clearly. Its built like an 8.00 radio not the 80.00 radio i was paying for and expecting. Earphones were cheap. Radio rattled as if something large were loose in it, and like i said before…couldnt pick up one station without static. Buyer Beware!

Recording time on a radio program was small. Charger was not working all the time. Manuel was somewhat confusing. For basic, small recording, very basic sound quality, you should be OK……but any more needed, keep looking
